About

Dr. Petros Damos, was born in Berlin where he received his primary education, he has a PhD in ‘Economic Entomology’ [Department of Plant Protection (PP)Aristotle University of Thessaloniki - State Scholarship, duration: 4 -years], M.Sc. in ‘Plant Protection’ [A. U.Th., 1.5 years], Diploma Supplementary (D.S.) in Pedagogies and Teaching [Higher School of Pedagogical and Technological Education, ASPETE, 1 year], and D.S. in ‘Enology and Viticulture’ [Department of Food Science and Technology, (FST), A.U.Th., 1-year].

Petros Damos has a degree in Agronomy [School of Agriculture,Department of Plant Protection, A. U.Th., 5-years], degree in Pharmacy [School of Pharmacy, Department of Organic and Pharmaceutical Chemistry, A.U.Th., 5 years] and degree in Crop Production [Higher Technological and Educational Institute of Crete, TEIC, Department of Crop Production, 4-years].

Since 2010 he works at the Laboratory of Applied Zoology and Parasitology (A.U.Th.) as a Post Doctoral Researcher (Scholar of the State Scholarship Foundation), as a Scientific Associate at the Technological and Educational Institute of Florina (TEIF) where he teaches ‘Economic Entomology’ and as Public School Teacher in the secondary education (teaching Environmental Education).

Petros worked as Scientific Collaborator during two Research Programs at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (2005/06 and 2009/10) and is refereeing 5 international journals. He is supervising several graduate and undergraduate theses andserved as external (international) PhD disertation scientific evaluator.

During the last years Petros conducted high quality research in Economic Entomology and Insect Population Ecology, Stochastic Modeling of Insect Phenology and Insect Biochemical Processes, Secondary Plant Metabolites and Insect Chemical Ecology. Additionaly, he has high experience in the field Integrated Pest Management and the development of Pest Forecasting Models, Insect Economic Levels and Thresholds for decision making.

Since 2007, he has published more than 40 publications (first author in 37,including 1 PhD Thesis, 1 M.Sc. Thesis, 1 D.S.Thesis and 2 Diploma Theses, and has >30 citations). Lately he has published two international book chapters (after invitation) one on the field of Integrated Pest Management and one in Stochastic modeling of insect phenology (Nova Science, NY)]. Petros has published several papers in high ranked Journals [Including: J. Stor. Prod. Res. (i.f. 2007 1.459), J. Econ. Entomol. (i.f. 2008: 1.376), J. Appl. Entomol. (i.f. 2010: 1.436), Physiol Entomol. (i.f.2010: 1.358), Crop Prot. (i.f.2010: 1.331), J. Theor. Biol. (i.f.2010: 2.371)]. Additionally, he participated (talks and posters) in numerous international conferences and workshops (>20) and has several publications in congress proceedings (>7) and abstracts (>18).

In June 2011 has successfully completed the Graduate Web-Science Master Program in the Department of Mathematics of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.

Currently he is collaborating with the web-science section [Mathematics Department, (A.U.Th.)] in order to expand the scope of his research and knowledge on Pest Population Modeling and Integrated Pest Management, for wider and realistic applicability in Agro-Ecosystems.

His latest research interests are focused in the field of: stochastic modeling of biological networks, applications of Graph Theory and combinatorial Mathematics in predicting spatiotemporal evolution of insect food-webs  in Agro-Ecosystems and development of “artificial intelligent expert systems” for Integrated Pest Management based on web 3.0, semantics and high order ontology logical programming.

He is member of 3 international scientific associations (ESA, IOBC, EFSA) and speaks fluent Greek, English, German and very good French.
