After the completion of his doctoral studies at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, he has worked as a postdoc research fellow in the Department of Physical Education and Sports Science, University of Thessaly (2004-2006). He has also worked as an adjunct Lecturer in the Department of Biochemistry and Biotechnology in the University of Thessaly teaching the courses “Exercise Biochemistry”, “Biostatistics” and “Biochemical Toxicology” (2005-2007). From 2006 to 2010, Dr Nikolaidis has worked as Researcher D´ and C´ in Exercise Biochemistry in the Institute of Human Performance and Rehabilitation, Center for Research and Technology Thessaly, Greece.

Dr Nikolaidis has published more than 50 international peer reviewed papers in the area of Exercise Biochemistry and has presented over 70 papers in conferences. His work has been cited in more than 500 published papers and he serves as a reviewer for several journals in the Exercise Physiology field. He has published four reviews in the scientific journals Sports Medicine, Archives in Biochemistry and Biophysics and Progress in Lipid Research. He has secured more than €300,000 the last three years from several European grants.

Research Interests

Dr. Nikolaidis’s research interests include among others:

- the exploration of the potential mechanisms for increased reactive species production during and after exercise,

- the role of blood as governing factor of both oxidative stress and maintenance of oxidant-antioxidant homeostasis,

- the potential influence of reactive species and redox agents (e.g., “antioxidants”) on exercise-induced adaptations and health effects.
